Socola is a successful chocolate business that is moving into the SoMA district of San Francisco. The team of sisters are raising funds to finish the construction and grand opening of their store, which is set for mid to late January. With 21 days to go on their Kickstarter campaign, they have already raised over $8,000 of their $10,000 goal.
Socola, founded by Chief Chocolatiers, Wendy and Susan Lieu, is chocolate store that seems to offer the full chocolate experience. Socola, which is vietnamese for chocolate, not only makes a variety chocolates and pastries, but they also teach chocolate making classes, wine and chocolate pairing classes, and hosting parties or events for customers.
Famous for their truffles, Socola has actually been in business since 2001. Back when Wendy and Susan were 19 and 16 years old respectively, they began distributing their chocolates to family and friends. After a wild success from family, friends and neighbors, they moved on to the entire Sonoma County with great success.
Wendy and Susan both bring fascinating experiences to the Socola team. Wendy, who is a pastry chef graduate, handles all the cooking, baking, and dessert artistry to the Socola. Not to mention, she holds a degree in economics from UC Davis.
Susan on the other hand brings marketing and additional business skill to the team. She works to continue making sure Socola is filled with happy customers full of delicious chocolate. With a degree from Harvard in Social Studies, I am comforted knowing that she a strong work ethic.
Why You’ll Love This Project
The funds for this campaign are not to start their business, but to continue expanding into a new location. This is the point any investor would want to be apart of project. As much as possible, you want to be the one assisting further growth as opposed to helping them jump off the ground.
Not to negate why we love and support projects on Kickstarter, it’s always refreshing to know your supporting entrepreneurs who have some experience under their belt. Since they have been in business since 2001, I think you can assume that their chocolate must be pretty good.
Their pledge goals are also fantastic. Since they are raising funds for the actual physical location, they have decided to use their product as a tool to reward backers. For $25, you can select their 16 piece random box that includes their award winning truffles. After watching their video and seeing all the additional different flavors they offer, the Sriracha chocolate flavor sounds very intriguing.
Finally, as mentioned previously, the team is solid. They both bring strong education background which encourages me they a good work ethic that an entrepreneurial endeavor requires. Also, as sisters who have been in business for over 10 years, I am confident they will only continue to succeed in their new home in the SoMA district.
